Sweet Home Alabama
I'm sitting Sunday after the .NET Alabama Code Camp at the Panera on the Summit in Birmingham.
A bit tired and actually deflated
after a great Alabama .NET CodeCamp.
The show is done, and I'm ready to head home, although the cool weather and trees that actually change color
are wonderful.
The CodeCamp was a smashing success. Stats were
spectacular, especially for Alabama on a football Saturday. If you are from the South
you understand what I mean. If you're not from the South, well, you'll never get it.
It was a truly community effort. There were four separate Alabama .NET Developer
groups represented(
Huntsville .NET,
Birmingham Software Developer Association,
Montgomery .NET Developer Association,
Lower Alabama (Mobile) .NET Developer Group,
) as well a slew of volunteers from the
Black Data Processing Association (
http://www.bdpabham.org/
)
helping us out.
I was even annointed an honorary Alabamian for the day by the CodeCamp board. This
is no small feat to be granted this badge by Alabamians, and was a title I wore with honor.
- 1048 attendee hours of .NET education delivered
- 131 attendees learned and had fun
- 40 sessions prepared and delivered
- 27 speakers volunteering their time for the .NET community
- 8 hours of facility time donated by Virginia College of Birmingham
- 2 .NET Pub Clubs sponsored by Russ Fustino
- 1 awesome Alabama .NET community experience
Interesting rumors of a second Alabama .NET CodeCamp in Huntsville in April.
Of course, the Mobile and Montgomery devs didn't like that and want one down
in LA (Lower Alabama for the yankees out there). Bruce?
You reading and listening? Last week in January? Hint hint....
Also Jeremy Chance and Todd Miranda
were feeling out interest for a deep .NET focused user group in Birmingham. Some
truly exciting developments on the horizon for my Alabama community.
Several thanks need to go out...
This was the fifth codecamp I've sponsored for Florida / Alabama / Mississippi,
and the 11th for the Greater SouthEast District (GSD) of Microsoft.
Next GSD CodeCamps rumored for Lauderdale in February, and Orlando in March....
